What are high school boys and girls lacrosse players’ chances of playing the sport in college compared to their counterparts in football, basketball, ice hockey, soccer, swimming, track and other sports?
Pretty high, according to the NCAA in a study that was concluded this past April.
The table above, produced by the NCAA, shows how many high school and NCAA athletes compete in each sport along with an estimate of the percentage of those going on to compete at either the Division I, II or III levels.
Boys HS lax players have the highest probability of playing at the next level. Girls high school laxers also rank high, behind only ice hockey.
The study does not reflect athletic scholarships awarded, which is an important factor to consider in the findings.
More than 480,000 compete as NCAA athletes while nearly eight million students currently participate in high school athletics in the United States.
